The  Catholic school at Shantipur is named after  St. Thomas, one of the twelve disciples of Jesus Christ. He came to India by Sea in the year 52 A.D. and preached the message of Christ to local people, in various part of Kerala. Then he crossed over to China with the same mission. St. Thomas returned to India and organized the various group. He erected a few public place of worship. He moved to coromandel, and suffered martyrdom on or near the little mount in 72 A.D. His body was buried in a shrine he had bilt.

As Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the President of India, remarked in December 1995, we “Remember” St. Thomas, who came to India when many countries of Europe had not yet become Christian. And it is really matter of pride to us that it so happened…”

We rely on the powerful intercession of St. Thomas; in our task of teaching and guiding young minds towards progress and towards a worthy human life.
